Why it pays to arrange your airport transfer in advance

Thursday, 2 August 2014 4:35 PM

Heading to cosmopolitan cities like Barcelona and Milan or charming coastal destinations such as Nice is a fabulous way to relax and get away from it all. Before you get too carried away with planning what activities you will do on your next chic sojourn, though, it pays to spend some time thinking about essential things such as airport transfers.

Although this might not be the most interesting aspect of planning a getaway, it is perhaps one of the most important. While you will always have a range of options when it comes to going from your airport to your resort, if you want to arrive at your accommodation in style and, of course, in good time, it is worth booking transport in advance. To do anything other than this could delay how soon your chic holiday is able to begin.

Indeed, you might be tempted to try your luck and get into one of the taxis that can be found waiting at the depots next to the airport's arrival lounge. If you are thinking of using such transportation, however, you should be prepared to wait. Queues for taxis can be long, especially if you're travelling in a peak holiday season or have come through the gates of a large bustling airport such as New York's JFK, so you might find it takes a while for you to get to your hotel or villa.

Of course, you also could try using public transport to get to your accommodation. However, if you're not familiar with the local language you might struggle to read bus and train timetables accurately, which will leave you at risk of missing a connection and, as a result, taking longer to reach your accommodation.

Instead, it is well worth booking a private transfer in an airport taxi before you leave home. Doing so offers many benefits, but perhaps the most obvious advantage is that you won't have to join a long queue for taxis or wait for public transport. As you will have arranged for a driver to come and pick you up in advance, you can hop into a car to be whisked off to your destination so your break can start without delay.

By sorting out your transport in advance, you can also be sure that is suitable for all the members of your party. This is particularly useful if you are going away with toddlers (who may need a car seat) or wheelchair users. In either case, special products are required to ensure passengers will be able to stay safe as they travel.

While such airport transfers, of course, cost money, the fact you've booked in advance means you'll know exactly how much the bill will be, which is useful if you want to keep a close eye on your spending. Hopping into a taxi that you've not booked, on the other hand, could see you having to pay far more depending on how much the meter goes up by.

Although getting from the airport to your resort is one of the most important aspects to organising a holiday, that is not to say it cannot be done in style. Arrange a premium service to pick you up and you'll have more space to relax so you can arrive at your destination in total comfort.

Quirky luxury hotels - A Room for London

Though not technically a hotel, this room could possibly have the best view in the whole of London. When you picture this you’re probably imagining an exclusive pent house suite on top of some iconic building, not a wooden boat perched precariously on top of the Queen Elizabeth Hall at the Southbank Centre, as if left there by retreating floods.
