Friday, 9 March 2014 2:53 PM

Glamping has taken the luxury travel market by storm, it’s now not only for luxury safaris in the East African bush, but there are opulent Afghan yurts in Spain, lavish safari tents in Wales, eco Mongolian yurts in Patagonia and even those among the tree canopies out in the Australian outback. So here’s our pick of the world’s most luxurious places to go glamping.

Hot Tub Safari, Wales
This is the ultimate safari tented camp experience... in Wales? Yes you heard right, the luxurious Hot Tub Safari lodges are situated in north Wales and come complete with African masks, wooden giraffes, tribal drums, animal print furnishings and zebra lamp shades. Roll top baths, under floor heating and your own courtyard with private hot tub, complete the decadent picture.

Patagonia Camp, Chile
Situated in the spectacular Torres del Paine National Park in Chile, the Patagonia Camp is surrounded by jagged snow capped peaks and sits on the edge of the deep blue Lake Toro. Eighteen fully equipped Mongolian style yurts lay like glowing domes in a beach tree forest, featuring private bathrooms, king sized beds and hand crafted wooden furniture. Snuggle up under sheepskin rugs and locally woven fabrics, while you look out across the jaw-dropping views.

Paperbark Camp, Australia Deep in the Australian bush in amongst the eucalyptus and the paperbark trees sits an oasis of luxury - The Paperbark Camp. Twelve original African safari tents stand high up amongst the trees with wrap around verandas, private en suites and added luxuries such as bathrobes and pure cotton sheets. Relax in your private claw-footed bath while looking out across the lantern lit canopy. The Paperbark Camp also prides itself on itself on its excellent restaurant, The Gunyah, serving seasonal gourmet cuisine such as local kingfish with pumpkin and ginger puree or peppered venison with beetroot oil and pickled vegetables.

The Hoopoe Yurt Hotel, Spain
If you’re looking for true Afghani and Mongolian opulence, then look no further than the Hoopoe Yurt Hotel set in amongst the olive groves and cork oak forests of Andalucía in Spain. Each yurt is totally unique, decked out in traditional textiles from Afghanistan, India and Mongolia with potted palms, beautifully carved wooden furniture and plush rugs. Each also comes with its own private bathroom with hot showers, hand painted terracotta basins and eco toilets. Relax by the swimming pool with views over the Alpujarra Mountains and dine on excellently perpared local tapas.

Singita Sabora Tented Camp, Tanzania
Step back into the colonial era of camping at the Singita Sabora Tented Camp, where tents are large and luxurious, filled with antique mahogany travel chests in a palate of safari hues, Persian rugs and heavy silk curtains. Reminisce of a bygone era of travel as you dine under the lamp-lit acacia tree on local organic feasts. Tents also come with added luxuries such as telephones, wireless internet, electronic safes and hair dryers - you’ll hardly feel like you’re camping at all. Spend your days going for game drives and wallowing in swimming pool with views over the waterhole, frequented by zebra, elephants and giraffe.
